Sample cover letter for Internship position at Oliver Wyman
GOT THE JOB? Yes
I am excited to have an opportunity to work at Oliver Wyman as a summer intern. I attended the Oliver Wyman Case Interview Workshop at the University of ----- and found the consultants to be down-to-earth, engaging and passionate about their work and the firm. Through my interactions with Mr ----- a consultant in the Financial Services practice, I gained a deeper appreciation about the firm and learnt about the entrepreneurial and collegial culture at Oliver Wyman offices. He mentioned that my international experience would be welcomed at the London office and recommended that I apply for the internship. I wish to work at Oliver Wyman because it offers the opportunity to engage in intellectually stimulating work across a range of sectors, within a collegiate and supportive culture. In addition, the firm’s unparalleled commitment towards the development of its employees greatly appeals to me.
Unlike other candidates who probably seem enthusiastic about consulting, I am certain of my interest in consulting because I have worked on a real-life consulting project for a retail client in Bristol. I used Microsoft Excel to analyse data in order to optimize and streamline product mix, and learnt to craft effective presentation decks using Microsoft PowerPoint. This was supplemented by learning about client engagement and project management skills from our team mentor (a professional consultant).
My leadership and extracurricular experience has allowed me develop the core competencies to succeed in a rigorous, team-oriented environment. As the President of the Finance Society, I analysed reports, engaged in independent research, attended meetings and co-authored a recommendation to the University to improve the funding requirements for student societies. I also gained a critical insight into relationship-building measures in a formal and structured environment.
I believe I possess the requisite skills and work ethic to succeed as a summer consultant and consequently obtain a graduate offer.
